Feeling in need of a pick-me-up? Just listen to Queen!

We all have down days and sad days, when no amount of positive thinking or coffee drinking can snap us out of the doldrums.

A little happiness hack, in this event, might come in the surprising shape of Queen!! Not THE Queen, but the Bohemian Rhapsody rockers that nobody can resist singing out to.

Of all the pick-me-up playlists to grace our Sonos, Queen apparently comes up trumps as the most likely to lift our mood. Dancing Queen by Abba came second, with Happy by Pharrell Williams in joint third. In fact, 81% of Britons say that they have been made to feel better by listening to music.

The Research by ComRes (obo BBC local radio for Faith in the World Week) is backed up by another study by StubHub UK which found that one in five (21%) of Brits will tune into a good rock song to get them pumped up and boost their confidence before a big day at work, or even before heading off on a date. Queen also reigned supreme as Britain’s self-belief-boosting champions, with 17% of the population choosing one of their classic anthems when in need of some confidence.

Obviously, music is not the be all and end all of mood regulation, but in terms of an easily accessible antidote to a bad day, there is great mileage in at least chancing your arm at the rocking it out method. If nothing else, it’s an opportunity to 'break free' from the stresses and strains of daily life for 6 glorious minutes...make the most of them!
