‘The lockdown sleep lull is taking its toll, and at a time when our wellness can afford it least’

Updated: Mar 1, 2021

In the last year, many of us have noted a significant change in how well, and maybe how much, we are sleeping.

The stress of lockdown, and the disruption to everyday routines that once regulated our sleep habits, are partly to blame.

Given the important role that good quality sleep plays in health, it’s no surprise that this sleep shortfall is taking its toll, and at a time when our wellness can afford it least.

As a result, and especially with the arrival of National Sleep Month, the how-to of sleep-promotion is a topic of increasing interest!

In the main, it pays to take all possible measures to help improve the amount and quality of nightly rest we are achieving, and a large part of this, of course, comes down to our sleep environment.

Comfort and temperature regulation are among the most important sub-factors to consider, and this is something that Devon Duvets – purveyors of hand-crafted sustainable duvets – would well attest to.

Their range of eco-friendly 100% natural bedding products are handcrafted by a team of professional seamstresses in their Devon workshops, and are designed to provide the optimum level of warmth (specific to individual sleep preferences, season and environment) to help reduce sleep disturbances.

The range includes their 100% British wool duvets, which are certified by British Wool and are fully traceable. Following the success of this range, Founders Dick and Pauline went on to develop Botanic - a 100% plant-based range containing the raw fibre TENCEL™ Lyocell. This natural fibre is made from sustainable wood sources, using an Eco award-winning process, and is Registered by The Vegan Society.

Also in the sustainable range, is Devon Duvet’s 100% Mulberry silk filled duvets, and their luxurious Limited Edition 100% British alpaca duvets, made with one of the highest grades of natural pure white alpaca fibres.

With a duvet to suit everyone, and every bedroom, Devon Duvets is the one-stop shop for those looking to upgrade their bedding (and sleep) this Spring!

Personal review: Caroline Matthews, Health Magazine Editor

‘For me, bedtime has always been a bit of an oxymoron, earmarked by that unfathomable need to be hot AND cold, all at the same time.

It’s one of those bizarre, self-created non-negotiables which has admittedly (and ironically) led to many an unsettled night, mostly on those occasions when ‘optimum’ errs on the side of roasting...as it so often does.

This windows-wide-open, thick duvet, bed socks and pyjamas idyll is a personal preference, but as comforting as it always starts out, it doesn’t necessarily always bode well for uninterrupted shut eye.

In fact, trying to harness the two extremes can often lead to great annoyance when that 2am too-hot-too-cold indecision kicks in.

After the longest time battling these kind of duvet-on, duvet-off, foot-out, foot-in frustrations, a turning point was finally reached last week.

The Devon Duvets natural wool duvet, quite remarkably, manages to pull off the prerequisite snuggleability needed to perfectly complement my arctic bedroom requirements and, at the same time, boasts just enough breathability to stop the duvet cocoon becoming too much come 3am!

Slim, streamlined and with not an ounce of bulkiness or lumpiness, this duvet offers warmth without heaviness, and this alone makes it a dream for those like me, for whom a blanket approach to bedding so often misses the mark.

Thanks to Devon Duvet’s natural wool duvet, the temperate battles of old have - touch wood - officially been put to bed.'
