SUN, SEA and OXYBENZONE: discover why concern is rising about the use of certain chemicals in suncre

It’s that time of year when we’re all starting to stock up on suncream ahead of the holiday season, and while there is no denying the UV protection is absolutely necessary when spending time in the sun, concern is rising as to the use of certain chemicals - particularly Oxybenzone - in these products.

According to a pilot study conducted the US Food and Drug Administration, high levels of this and three other chemicals – avobenzone, ecamsule and octocrylene – were found in people's bloodstream after one day of sunscreen use, suggesting sunscreens are absorbed into our bodies. And it gets worse, if we’re swimming in the sea, these chemicals can wash off into the ocean, with potentially detrimental effects to coral reefs. In fact, is estimated that 14 million kilos of sunscreen end up in the world's ocean every year from swimmers, threatening 10% of coral reefs worldwide in the process. Since 63% of ingredients found in conventional sunscreens are harmful for humans or the environment, it pays to consider a natural alternative if you are heading on holiday this summer.

Suntribe Sunscreen is Biodegradable with 100% natural and organic ingredients, including Sunflower Seed Oil, Cacao Seed Butter, Shea Butter, and Coconut Oil. It is a Mineral sunscreen which uses Non-Nano Zinc Oxide as a UV-filter, and offers certified broad spectrum protection from UVA & UVB. Not only this, it is approved for use in sensitive aquatic environments and is water and sweat resistant, making it perfect if you're combining holidaying with fitness this summer.
