A day in the life of...Amie Dawson

Amie Dawson is a health blogger, personal trainer and Founder of Wonderbox .

My day generally starts around 6.30am. I wouldn’t say I am a natural early riser and I’m pretty sure if it wasn’t for my alarm I would wake much later but; I do feel a lot more productive in my days when I wake and get up at 6.30am. I also have very busy days so I need the extra bit of time to be able to fit in as much as I can. I always start my day with a few sips of water followed by letting the dog out into the garden. I then wash and cleanse my face, brush my teeth and apply a day moisturiser and eye cream as I suffer from quite dry skin, especially in the colder weather which we are now getting. I’m now ready to start my day.

Breakfast is the next thing so whilst my husband takes the dog for a walk I prepare and make breakfast and a cup of tea. I start every day with a cup of tea; I think it’s the northerner in meJ. Breakfast is usually eggs or porridge which we eat together every morning. I also take a Vitamin D supplement and multivitamin at this point in the day too.

After breakfast it’s time for work. As a blogger I generally work from home in the mornings either catching up on emails, writing blogs or editing photos. As I am a personal trainer, F45 Training coach, recipe developer and I own a subscription box business as well as blogging no two days are ever the same for me so I do spend a lot of time in and out of the house with clients, teaching, filming and at meetings.

I tend to have my ‘lunch break’ anytime between 12 and 2pm depending on if I am out with clients around those times or not. I usually try and keep my personal training clients and classes to the evenings so generally they don’t affect my lunchtime. At this time I make sure I completely switch off from all work and focus solely on preparing and cooking a healthy lunch; nothing fancy, just something quick but healthy (a good balance of veggies, proteins, carbs and fats). I take around 45 minutes for lunch each day.

The afternoons are generally made up of more work- usually recipe creation if I have recipes to make. I like to recipe create in the afternoons as I have the best lighting in my kitchen for photography at that time of day. It also gives me the opportunity to be away from my laptop for a period of time after I have spent all morning on it. At around 3pm I then take the dog out for a long walk (usually around an hour). Once I get home I usually have a snack; veg sticks, toast, a smoothie or some fruit before preparing to either head to the studio for personal training clients or head to F45 to either coach or attend the class as a member.

The afternoons quickly become evenings in which I continue to either teach, coach or do my own training. I much prefer an evening workout so if I have a free evening I will head to F45 and join in with a session there. If I know I can’t fit it in in the evening then I will either do a morning class or head to lunchtime class and adjust my day accordingly.

After coaching/teaching or my own workout I head home and it’s dinner time. My home time can be anything from 7pm all the way to 9.30pm so if I am home earlier I will prepare a healthy dinner and myself and the hubby will sit and eat this together. Again a good combination of lots of veggies, fats, carbs and protein. If it’s a later home time then I usually

just have a snack before bed as I don’t like having a big meal just before bed. This can be anything from eggs on toast to yoghurt and granola.

I like to get a shower before bed so this is where I take any make-up I may have put on off with a make-up remover and then wash my face in the shower. I then pop a night cream on which keeps my face nicely hydrated all night long. I like to go to bed quite early so I aim to be in bed by 9.30pm if I can. Obviously this isn’t possible on days I get in at that time so I aim for 10pm on those days. If I am lucky enough to be in bed by 9.30pm I like to read for 15-20 minutes to unwind and relax before I go to sleep.
