Autumn's 'skincare reset'... and so it begins!

The 'autumn reset' is a well-known and increasingly popular bandwagon, giving those of us in need of recalibration the tools and motivation to control-alt-delete... and begin again.

After the summer holidays, I felt this urge to overhaul especially keenly, but it wasn't just my urge to take up art, attend a sound bath and live off the land which indicated I was in 'reset mode.'

As well, the temptation to clear out my bathroom cupboard and start from scratch was particularly telling. My autumn skincare ambitions revolved, in the main, around eradicating the 'nasties' that are all too ubiquitous, and which much reading around this topic has cautioned me against.

With a view to breaking free from the likes of PFAS, parabens, phthalates once and for all, I set to work putting Abevo's 'screened' skincare to the test. Abevo specialise in UK-made and Korean skincare, with an emphasis on traceability from formula...to shelf, therefore removing the need for ingredient-checker apps and wasted skincare investments.

The products put to the test included Upcircle's cleansing face milk, Evolve's hyaluronic eye serum and face serum, followed by Haruharu Wonder's Black Rice 10 Hyaluronic cream.

All the products were selected by the Abevo team for their hydration-supporting and skin-smoothing properties, as well as for being lightweight, fragrance free and minimal-ingredient formulas. Given my skin is sensitive, and my time limited, these simple, no-fuss products proved a perfect deviation from my existing routine. There was no convoluted application, no waiting-for-products-to-sink-in and no stickiness whatsoever. The cleanser - unlike many I have tried - left skin feeling softened as opposed to tight, while the rollerball eye serum (with its unique cooling effect) was quick to set a new eyecare expectation. The face serum glided on more like a gel than a serum and disappeared instantly, something that scored it brownie points when my impatience and perpetual need to moisturise-then-go was used as a guide.

On the whole, my autumn skincare 'reset' has proved fortuitous, with new possibilities for everyday cleanse/moisturise habits firmly on my radar. The results - especially of all the hyaluronic TLC - well, they remain to be seen.
