For the UK charity sector, the cancellation of fundraising events and the closure of many funding sources such as charity shops, is meaning that vital services - many of which are needed now more than ever - are increasingly coming under threat.
The plight of these smaller charities is - to a large extent - getting lost in the nation's very valid efforts to help support the NHS through the coronavirus crisis.
For this reason, Health Magazine will be hosting a virtual auction later this week to help channel emergency funds to support these charities which are facing increased pressure and demand on their services in the current health crisis.
We will be auctioning products and experiences to the highest bidder via our instagram stories, and will be donating 100% of the final bid price to The Thames Hospice, Sue Ryder Care, Women's Aid and Age UK.
Given that those over the age of 70 now face months of isolation, Age UK have seen an increase in uptake of its friendship services, including its 24/7 helpline.
Women’s Aid currently a 23-minute average wait time for women using the helpline, and they need vital fund to help women in need to access crucial support faster.
Thames Hospice is currently supporting local NHS Trusts by caring for vulnerable Covid-19 patients on its Inpatient Unit in Windsor. They require additional funds for the extra equipment that it desperately needs to safely care for patients in the face of this crisis, but they are set to lose over £1million of income over the next few months.
Sue Ryder Care provide bereavement counselling for someone struggling to cope after a loved one has died, and their services - like so many other charities - are currently in need of funding support to continue this service.
The Healthy Magazine auction will be kicking off on Thursday, and here’s a little taste of what you could be bidding on:
