'The very art of applying lipstick can do wonders for your mindset'

Updated: Jul 14, 2020

A little trick for anyone working from home, but struggling to actually get in the ‘zone’...

Try a little lippy!

Ridiculous as it sounds, the very art of applying a touch of rouge can do wonders for your mindset.

Lipstick-wearers everywhere will probably well relate to this effect, and the psychology of slicking on their signature shade, whether it’s an in-your-face red or a barely-there nude.

But to what mechanism do we owe this curious effect!?

Well, let’s just say it’s not all about the aesthetics. Yes, it can create the drama that draws the eye and enhances our features, but more than anything... it’s the ritual that forges a feeling of readiness, and being ‘put together’ in spite of the opposite often being the case.

Lipstick takes confidence to wear, but the same is also a consequence, so it sets off a self-perpetuating cycle that we defy anyone to not reap some form of reward from... be it a little lift when we need it most, or an interview aced by pulling some serious Bobbi Brown punches out of the bag!

If you try it and it feels strange, the advice is to persist regardless, since it can take 2 weeks to become accustomed to a new shade of lipstick, according to Lindsay Edwards of Reimagise.

As the old saying goes (kind of), if at first you're not convinced... try, try again!
