If the loungewear trend of 2020 brought anything home, it’s that what we wear, can have a significant impact on how we FEEL.
Yes, the freedom to flop around in flannelette was a novelty at first, but there’s no denying that ultimately (and surreptitiously) this comfort factor came at a considerable cost, to both confidence AND that part of our identity, which clothing just so happens to conflate with!
Luckily, dressing up is now officially back in fashion, and what better talisman for this revival, than one of mainstream fashion’s most enduring trends… leopard print!
Over the years, celebrities and designers have afforded leopard print many a moment (Scary Spice…need we say more!), and this influence plays out today through the #OOTD mouthpiece - among other social mediums - with predictable regularity.
Interestingly, for those who embrace the trend, the rewards extend far beyond the street cred, as evolutionary psychology - and the latent fear response - means just the sight of a leopard print can incite a powerful response, according to Fashion Psychologist Shakaila Forbes-Bell.
Now of course, leopard print might not be for everyone, and the Bet Lynch stereotype is still a common stumbling block. Luckily, though, many of this season’s retailers are boasting a variety of subtle and fun interpretations on the trend. What this means, is that even those who aren’t ready to go full-on animal-print, needn’t miss out on the chance to feel just a little bit more, well...wild, than perhaps they have done before!
