A planet-minded approach to bedroom design

There are many things we can take from the annual observation of ‘Earth Day.’
First, there’s the motivation and incentive it provides to ‘do our bit.’ That part goes without saying.
As well, however, Earth Day has a habit of moving aspiration on its axis, shifting #lifestylegoals surreptitiously towards the realm of the ‘off grid’.
This annual persuasion towards the fields, the vistas and the yonder wilderness - it’s the antithesis of modern digitised life, tapping into the unrivalled power of biophilia on which modern ambition is being increasingly built.
This innate tendency that we all have (and which normally lies dormant in the cluttered realm of busy life) to affiliate with and interact with nature isn’t just making me feel outdoorsy, it’s making me want to make my home more outdoorsy too.
Admittedly, the fully ‘biophilic home’ - personified by natural light, woody elements and house plants galore - is a bit of a pipe dream. The biophiliic bed, on the other hand, is proving pretty achievable.
Having switched to a pure wool duvet by Devon Duvets, sleep has become an unlikely conduit to that all-important human-nature connection. Unlike synthetic ‘easy care’ bedding, which surreptitiously stifles this symbiotic relationship, these hand-crafted duvets are made from fully traceable wool, with no harsh chemicals or allergens.
Importantly, wool duvets aren’t derived from synthetic materials, nor do they release micro plastics into the home or wider environment. They are also more breathable, preventing overheating and sweating too. This alone is an incentive to make the switch to natural bedding, especially during the spring /summer when warmer nights often present a unique set of sleep challenges that standard bedding struggles to help the body adapt to.
In summary, a wool duvet isn’t just a way of being more sustainable. It’s also a way of ensuring meaningful contact with nature, both as a jumping off point for better health, and as an antidote to our increasingly laminated lives.
