DRINK IT IN! Why it pays to embrace the match day spirit

Updated: Jul 16, 2021

Whether you’re a football fan or not, there’s much to be said for embracing the match day spirit now and then, if for no other reason than to take advantage of that lesser-known ‘spectator’s paradox’!

According to research carried out by @betvictor, the jubilation experienced by watching a football game can mimic the ‘positive physical stresses’ of a brisk 90-minute walk.

By elevating heart rate, boosting mood, and lowering blood pressure, the value of being a Euro 2020 supporter goes beyond the sheer entertainment and social value.

The more important the game, the bigger the boost, apparently, and depending on the result, the mood improvement can last for up to 24 hours after the game.

Now, we’re not saying this post is prescriptive, but for the chance to drink in the atmosphere that lockdown dreams were made of, we can be a good sport… for a few hours !
