Tell me it’s raining, without telling me it’s raining…

Updated: Sep 8, 2022

Beyond the weather apps, and the fact that the radiators are once again adorned with washing… there is no better tell-tale sign of a storm a-coming, than the pathetic fallacy of a rumbling tummy!

Hunger and rain, it seems, are inextricably linked, and there’s actually a scientific explanation for the phenomenon that has us grappling for the ham, egg and chips at the first sign of drizzle!

The theory goes, that cloudcover causes serotonin levels to decrease, which subsequently can increase hunger and carbohydrate cravings.

It goes a long way to explaining, why the mezze mainstay of those heatwave weeks, suddenly seems less appealing in the chilly, rainy light of an August day!

Of course, the risk of not-another-salad-syndrome is especially high at this time of year anyway, and it’s always at this point that the ‘comfort food’ creeps back in with renewed irresistibility!

You could call it ‘intuitive eating’, or maybe even ‘transitional nutrition’, at a push!

Whichever way you look at it, however, one thing’s for sure when it comes to this looming ‘autumn cloud’ - the silver lining sure is tasty!
