The Big Print Revival

Not so long ago, the general consensus was that print had had its day, and the future… was digital!
For a while, I believed this narrative (and even converted the magazine I founded in 2007, from print…to online, and then to a blog/social platform.)
More recently, however, there’s been some indications within the publishing industry, that the ‘glossies’ and paperbacks are on the brink of a long-overdue (and much welcome) come-back!
The online reader experience - it seems to have lost its shine, and I put it down, largely, to the so-called ‘digital deluge’ which we – the readers – have so little agency over.
As a result, I find myself boldly going back on my decision to be an ‘online creator’, and relocating my profession to the physical realms of…books!
It’s a wholly unexpected (yet exciting) U-turn, and one that I don’t think I’ll be alone in making, if public appetite for algorithmically-defined reading experiences continues to wane.
Books and magazines - they satisfy an urge for specificity, ‘realness’ and authenticity in an increasingly AI-generated world, and while the benefits of Blogging and Content Creating are not entirely redundant, they are bound to the inescapable reality….that the joy of flicking through pages, can’t be replicated!
