A sweet rebellion…against the ‘winter wane’!

I say it every year, but January is a vitality thief like no other.

This year in particular, it has taken some serious nutritional and lifestyle overhauling to avoid that predictable descent into the realm of ‘meh!’ which seems to go hand-in-hand with the season.

This idea of ‘overhauling’ might sound dramatic, but in actual fact, the process has consisted of little more than a series of adjustments. Tweaks, if you will, which although insignificant in isolation, are powerful as a collective.

Among these tweaks  - home-made manuka protein balls. These small but mighty morsels of vitality-enhancing ingredients have transformed my seasonal snack habits into something more sustaining, not to mention scrumptious.

Formerly, my caffeine-fuelled elevenses left much to be desired. However, thanks to this new protein-ball-making habit (Sunday is prep day!), the mid-morning munchies are being met with something more measured, less biscuit-shaped and antidotal to the dreaded ‘winter wane!’

To make these protein balls, you’ll need:

Rolled oats

Milled nuts and seeds

Sesame seeds

Dried, chopped dates

Dried cranberries

Peanut butter

Coconut oil

Honestly Manuka 100% New Zealand ‘Restorative’ honey has clinically relevant antibacterial strength, and is sustainably harvested, raw and unprocessed, which ensures full enzyme activity. These credentials make ‘Honestly Manuka’ the hero ingredient in this recipe, which also benefits from useful amounts of protein, omega 3 fats, vitamins and minerals owing to the bringing together of wholefood, raw ingredients.
