Smooth-running mornings… made possible!

Breakfast and weekday mornings did, for quite a long time, seem vastly incompatible. It was a nutritional stumbling block that, in hindsight, owed as much to a shortage of time, as it did a deficit of inspiration.

Cereal and toast… they’d lost their shine, which only left one conceivable option.

Smoothies.

The ‘meals in a glass’ have, since then, been coming in thick and fast…and there’s a few key fridge stables that I’ve come to depend upon, to keep this habit going.

They are, in no particular order:

Coconut water

Bananas

Strawberries (or any other berry)

Peanut butter

Date syrup

Oats

Among the benefits of this concoction, are the useful amounts of carbohydrates and protein, which ensure a slower release of energy than most smoothies (which tend to emphasise fruits alone) can purport to give. The addition of flax seeds, as well, helps support the body's need for omega 3 fats and B vitamins, which are involved in supporting immunity, metabolism and other vital bodily functions.

In my personal experience, the 'everything in' smoothie has helped bridge at least some of the nutritional voids that busy life has created, and by prioritising the 3 minutes it takes to whizz the key ingredients together, my mornings boast an efficiency that, fortunately, is no longer at the cost of the most important meal of the day.
